In Which the Ringmaster Imitates a Tuber
Movies and TV I've watched since Thursday, December 23:
The Lost Room (SciFi Channel)- Wow, this mini-series took the Friday the 13th Series plot of recovering objects with mysterious powers and transcended! This was a modern classic! Lets hope the series can A) be greenlighted and B) Keep up the quality.
Eragon- A chick's fantasy movie. Lots of dealing with feelings and huggy moments with some cool fantasy action interspersed. It's nice to see characters in a film actually cast magic. I'd give it a solid C+.
A Scanner Darkly- I loved the Philip K. Dick story and this "adaptation" doesn't disappoint. Don't look for a lighthearted cartoon here, this is about the dark side of addiction and society. I thought it was a B
The Davinci Code- They had to compress the heck out of the book, but they did a good job. Although it sometimes pushed credibility, it was a solid adaptation. C (Average)
Torchwood Episode 11- Ever since episode 10, this show has been on fire! It had a shaky and somewhat confused start, but the last couple stories have been just incredible twists on genre staples. The Cardiff Torchwood gang still behave like a UFO Club, but the show just keeps delving into darker and darker places. Very fresh! B+
Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride - Absolutely classic. Catherine Tate, talented British Comedienne plays a super-normal secretary that impossibly appears inside the TARDIS at the end of last season's finale. This is a great, great bit of television, manic, hilarious, and touching, the writing is just incredible. Works on every possible level. A+
The Big Lebowski - I hadn't seen this Cohen Brothers comedy since opening day in 1998. It's just one of the best. Everything is right. A
