In Which the Ringmaster Starts a New Film
I can't imagine anyone being interested in my DragonCon play-by-play. I don't even have pictures. Moving on....
Friday, talking to C.J., I decided that I MUST produce a new video. It is becoming too easy to put it off for one reason or another. I need a fix to propel me to do bigger things!
I met some great folks at the Con who were making cheap-ass short film with humor and cleverness that I came to adore. They were so hyped to be making horror movies that it was infectious. It made me miss my own excitement for video. I need to start working on it. Nothing elaborate, nothing fancy, just some kind of short to divert me from all the sucky financial stuff that is dragging my life down.
Before I'd finished my conversation with him (we spoke of he and his friends' costumes,) I knew the story I wanted to make. It would be a love letter to comic books and the things that I always loved most about them. It may not feature my favorite characters, but it says what I want to say. It will star my adorable 13 year old protege' Sara, one of her friends, CJ, Susie, and some of their friends in costume. It will end up being 10-15 minutes long with some cool effects and (hopefully) exciting stunts!
I want to try some techniques that I've never had a chance to work with and so does my partner in film, Jim. I showed him the script and he liked it. We will take a month for pre-production, then shoot in October. I hope the final product will be done by January!
Stick around, true believers, there's more to come!
Excelsior,
Shan Lee
