Catch Up Post #2 - Last Week

I went on the Bristol Bird Club field trip to Winged Deer Park, Austin Srpings (Washington County) and Musick's Campground, Weir Dam, and South Holston Dam (Sullivan County). I picked up many first of the year birds. It was a great trip with a total of 73 species seen. The FOY birds were:
Broad-winged Hawk - Austin Springs
Lesser Yellowlegs - Austin Springs
Solitary Sandpiper - Austin Springs
Caspian Tern - Musick's Campground
Purple Martin - Austin Springs
Cliff Swallows - Austin Springs
Brown Thrasher - Winged Deer Park
Hooded Warbler - Winged Deer Park
Vesper Sparrow - Austin Springs Park
Sunday - April 13, 2008
Ventured out in the chilly weather this morning, but was not disappointed. Stops were made at Watauga Point and up to where the pavement ends at the upper entrance to Pond Mountain.
Watauga Point (Cater County) - moderate wind
Yellow-throated Warbler 1
Black-throated Green Warbler (couple singing)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (building nest)
Goldfinches - many
Chipping Sparrows
Dark-eyed Junco
Pond Mountain (wind shielded)
Ovenbird - FOY
Ruffed Grouse - FOY
Black and White Warbler (many)
Black-throated Green Warbler (few)
Hairy Woodpecker
Blue-headed Vireo (many)
Pileated Woodpecker (near what looks to be a nest cavity)
Dark-eyed Junco
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (singing)
Chickadees
