The following picture was taken at Valle Crucis Community Park, in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, on May 21, 2006. This nightjar was sitting in a tree across from the pond when you first walk to the asphalt trail from the parking area. The link below the picture is linked to my gallery page where you can see this pic and click on other pictures. Thanks for any help.

UPDATE:
After a lot of feedback, we are convinced that this is a Chuck. The size of the bird was just too large to be a Whip and the flight pattern was the other major factor. The last thing it looked like when it flew was a giant moth. I think this is a good record for Western North Carolina and there should be follow up to this at the Valle Crucis Community Park buy those living closer and who can get there easier in the late evening.
Thanks for all the help!
